MAVELOUS MONDAY

We had another AMAZING day in first grade!

Homework: Math homework packet coming home tonight. Please remember that this is additional practice and should not add stress to your evening with your family. If the problem is too hard, your child does not have to complete it. Just write a little note to let me know.

Exciting news: We are diving into the world of nonfiction reading this week. We are so excited to embark on a unit that plays off of our children's natural curiosity for the world around them.  We'll begin our unit by having the children think about how nonfiction readers "become super smart about topics." Nonfiction reading is a great tool for increasing your child's content vocabulary, comprehension and reading process. We will also continue to practice important reading strategies as we work to increase our fluency and study craft. You're child will be energized by as they select books that feed their interests.  What an wonderful time in your child's reading life!

Questions for the dinner table:
How do you become experts about a nonfiction topic? Do you read only the words in nonfiction?
Share 5 things that we learned about Monkeys by looking closely at our Hang On, Monkey book.
How did you make your story come to life today? Why do we use ellipses?
What did you title your new butterfly poem?
How did you persevere during our math assessment?
