IMPORTANT: Please mark your calendars for our First Grade Literacy Night which is on Wednesday, September 20 from 6:00-7:00pm in the Captain library. First grade students and their parents are encouraged to attend. As this night is especially beneficial, I am hoping for 100 percent participation. If you are unable to attend, please let me know and we can set up a different time to meet.

Reading mini-lesson: How to drop bad reading habits and pick up the good
Private Reading
This week many students have gone "book shopping" with me in a one on one conference. Books that students pick for their book boxes are books that they can read independently, with out the support of the teacher. Students will be given books at an instructional level through small group work and additional one one conferences throughout the year.
Partner Reading
Recess
A personal favorite in first grade. The Lightning Jeweled Golden Eagles are working hard to solve conflicts peacefully with kindness, patience, and respect while on the playground.
Lunch
A great time of day to build relationships with friends, work on appropriate manners, and relax.
Writing
We are on the second day of our writing unit, Small Moment. Today we practiced planning for writing by touching and telling, sketching and then writing.
Math
We had our unit two assessment today. The students worked hard to show what they have learned about number bonds, how numbers are decomposed, and composed. Assessments will be graded and returned within the next few day.
......Fire Drill- Oh no!
Science
Unfortunately we did not have time do get to our meal worms. We will get them tomorrow. :)
